Upper Limb 2 Flashcards
Name some of the key features of the humerus. Locate them on a diagram.
Greater and lesser tubercles, intertubecular sulcus, deltoid tuberosity, surgical neck, radial groove, lateral and medial epicondyles, radial fossa, coronoid fossa, olecranon fossa, trochlea, capitulum
What are the 3 main muscles of the front of the arm? What nerve innervates them?
Biceps brachii, coracobrachialis, brachialis. All 3 are innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve
Where does the short head of the biceps brachii arise?
Coracoid process
Where does the long head of the biceps brachii arise?
supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
What are the actions of the biceps brachii?
flexion of shoulder and elbow joint, supination of the radioulnar joint.
What is the biceps brachii attached to distally?
radial tuberosity
What are the actions of the coracobrachialis?
flexion and adduction of the shoulder joint
Where does the coracobrachialis originate?
coracoid process
What is the main action of the brachialis?
flexion of the elbow joint
Where does the brachialis arise?
distal half of the shaft of the humerus
What is the main action of the triceps?
extension of the elbow joint
What is the main action of the anconeus?
extension of the elbow joint
What is the nerve supply to the triceps and anconeus?
radial nerve
What are the articular parts of the elbow joint?
trochlea, capitulum, trochlear notch, coronoid process, olecranon process and head of the radius
What type of joint is the elbow joint?
synovial hinge
What are the 3 flexors of the elbow joint?
biceps brachii, brachialis and coracobrachialis
What are the 2 extensors of the elbow joint?
anconeus and triceps brachii
What are the 2 ligaments of the elbow joint?
ulnar (medial) collateral ligament and lateral (radial) collateral ligament
What type of joint is the radio-ulnar joint?
Synovial pivot
What ligament forms a collar around the head of the radius?
annular ligament
What 2 muscles are involved in supination?
supinator, biceps brachii
What 2 muscles are involved in pronation?
pronator teres and pronation quadratus
The pulse of which artery can be felt in the cubital fossa?
brachial artery
The superior border of the cubital fossa is an imaginary line drawn between the two….?
epicondyles
The medial border of the cubital fossa is formed by what?
pronator teres
The lateral border of the cubital fossa is formed by what?
brachioradialis
What are the contents of the cubital fossa?
brachial artery, medial cubital vein, radial nerve, biceps tendon and median nerve
