What do the partial cells secret? And where are these cells found in the stomach?
HCL
In the body and the fundus
What do chief cells secret?
Pepsinogen - this digests protein
What do G cells produce and where are they in the stomach?
Gastrin - stimulates partial cells (HCL) and stimulates growth of epithelial glands (thick and protected from acid)
Found in the Antrum, duodenum and pancreas
How do prostaglandins act in the stomach?
Stimulate mucus and bicarbonate secretes and vasodilator blood vessels (more bicarb) this is to help neutralise the acid.
What do the foveolar cells in the stomach secrete?
Mucus and bicarbonate
Which arteries run near the stomach/ duodenum that are at risk of bleeding if there’s an ulcer?
Left gastric artery (less curve of stomach)
Gastric Duodenal artery (posterior side of duodenum)
Pain with food in gastric and duodenal ulcers?
Gastric - more pain while eating
Duo - less pain when eating
Diagnosis for peptic ulcers?
Upper endoscopy
Plus biopsy
Plus h. Pylori status
What’s the treatment for gastric MALT lymphoma?
H. Pylori eradication
What’s the treatment for Achalasia?
Endoscopic injection w/ Botox
Cardiomyotomy (more long lasting)
Diagnosis achalasia?
Ph and manometry studies and contrast study and endoscopy
Most common place for stomach cancer?
Pylorus 50%
What’s the surgical treatment for achalasia?
Cardiomyotomy (hellers procedure)
