How do you clean a Biological Safety Cabinet?
A
- Garb and handwash in the Ante room before entering the buffer area
- Place the chemo-waste container inside the BSC on the mat.
- Spray cleaning agent or alcohol on the front lip (tray area near edge of BSC) and wipe with cloth. Discard in the container inside the BSC.
- Next, clean the intravenous (IV) pole and sides. Wipe with overlapping strokes, from top to bottom, downward toward the work surface. Discard in the container inside the BSC when done.
- Clean the work surface wfrom back to front, around the mat, moving outward with overlapping strokes
- Clean the inner view screen (glass front) of the BSC. Discard the cloth in waste container.
- Pinch the mat and place in the waste container.
- Remove the outer pair of gloves and discard them in the waste container.
- Clean the outside of the view screen. Discard cloth in the waste container.
- Remove the container and place it in the outer trash container marked Hazardous. Degown and place all personal protective equipment (PPE) in the same trash.
