Force
energy or strength that can be shown through action (ex push or pull)
Potential energy
energy that is stored within an object based on its position or condition
Kinetic energy
energy an object has when it’s in motion
Newtons
the SI unit of force that will accelerate 1kg of mass one meter per second squared
Gravity
the force that pulls something towards the center of the earth
Mass
the amount of matter contained in an object
Friction
the resistance that a surface or object encounters when moving over another
Balanced force
when two forces have the same amount of strength but act in opposite directions
Unbalanced force
the force applied in one direction is greater than the opposite side’s force
Speed
the distance an object travels per unit of time
Velocity
the speed of an object plus the direction its moving in
Acceleration
a change in an object’s speed and/or direction
Inertia
objects that are in motion/ at rest stay that way unless some force causes its speed or direction to change
Motion
when an object changes its place or position
Net force
the sum of all forces acting on an object
