Unit 2 Science Vocab Flashcards
Molecule
formed by two or more of the same element atoms
Compound
formed by two or more different element atoms
Mixture
a substance created by two or more substances mixed together (not by chemical bonding)
Subscript
a number that is found slightly below and to the side of another character. It determines the # of atoms of that element
Coefficient
a number that refers to the entire chemical equation. It symbolizes that there are 2 or more of the same molecules in that formula.
Reactant
the beginning of substance before a chemical change
Yields
the arrow in a chemical equation that shows the direction of a chemical process
Product
the chemical substance that is formed as a result of a chemical reaction
Chemical Bond
elements combining chemically to form compounds or molecules
Balanced Chemical Equation
a chemical equation in which there are an equal number of atoms of each element on both sides of the equation
Law of Conservation of Mass
the fundamental law that matter can neither be created nor destroyed
Physical Change
a change in which an element or substance keeps its original properties
Chemical Change
a change in which an element or substance does not keep its original properties
Precipitate
a solid formed by a change in solution due to a chemical reaction or temperature change
Chemical Formula
a formula that shows the elements in a compound
