Unit 5 Flashcards
Magnets
Can attract or repel another magnetic substances
Attract ferromagnetic substances
Ferromagnetic substances
Attracted to magnets
(NIC) nickel, iron and cobalt
Non magnetic substances
Not attracted by magnets
Ex: aluminium, copper, lead, plastic, organic compound
Magnetic field
Strongest at poles
North (red) - South (blue)
Space around a magnet (subjects other objects around to a force of attraction or repulsion)
North (out of) - South (into)
Compass will point in the same direction of magnetic lines
Domains
Substances are composed of domains (represented by arrows) each domain is a tiny magnet
When aligned, substance is magnetic (arrows point in same direction)
Going in (Current Direction)
Look at paper ⬆️
Clockwise (right hand thumb rule)
