Whole number
The process of combining numbers
Adding
Taking one number away from another number to make a smaller total
Subtraction
A short hand of repeated additions
Multiplication
The process of finding how many times one number is contained within another
Division
Represents part of a hole that has been broken into pieces
Fraction
A fraction that is less than one(The numerator is less than the denominator)
Proper fraction
A fraction that is equal to or greater than one (The numerator is equal to or greater than the denominator)
Improper fraction
Any real number expressed in bass 10; another way of writing a number that is less than one
Decimal
Indicates the beginning of a decimal
Decimal point
In percentage problems, the rate is expressed either by the word percent or by the symbol %
Rate
This term refers to the whole amount to which the rate is applied
Base
The part of the base, or part of the whole, that you were often asked to calculate. It’s the number that results from multiplying the base by the rate
Percentage
The money you receive in your paycheck after deductions
Net salary
The amount of money taken out of a salary for taxes, medical insurance, union dues, charity contributions, treatment funds, and so on
