UNIT 4 ENVIRONMENTAL DISEASES Flashcards
what is syncope?
hypotension> too little ( perfuion) blood to brain ( loss of consciousness) due to too low BP
hypotension
hypertension
abnormally too high/low blood pressure
ischemia and hyperemia
low blood supply )vasoconstriction
high blood suply )vasodilation
necrosis due to ischemia causes?
- gangrene ( extremities)
2. myocardial infraction
hypothermia causes what?
cardiac arrest (death)
frostbite ?
necrosis due to local low temperature
-can get from liquid nitrogen that freezes WARTS
stages of frostbite=
- frostnip
- superficial fluid blister
- deep =black blister
what is raynauds disease? ( gloves)
high vasoconstriction when it is cold, blood cannot get to fingers/toes = cyanosis
what is Gangrene ?
loss of blood supply tissue necrosis
- typically toes, fingers
when can gangrene occur? 3
result of an
1) injury,
2) sev bacterial infection
3) affected blood circulation.
phases of raynauds disease 3 =
- pallor from vasoconstriction
- cynosis
- redness = vasodilation
degrees of burns 3 =
1st degree = redness
2nd =blisters
3rd = necrosis
radiation injuries:
what is dangerous and safe?
safe = below visible light dangerous = above UV range
what are biological affects of radiation injury? 4
- necrosis
- mutation of SOMATIC CELLS = leukemia of bone marrow + thyroid
- alt in chromosomes
- germ cell damage (embryonic cell>gamete)
Acute syndrome of radiation=
high doses of radiation in short time:
Atomic bomb or nuclear accident.
