unit 4 Flashcards
Congruent figures
figures that have the same shape and size
Congruent triangles
two triangles are congruent if and only if their vertices can be matched so the corresponding parts (angles and sides) of the triangles are congruent
CPCTC
Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent
SSS
SIDE SIDE SIDE
If 3 sides of one triangle are congruent to 3 sides of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
SAS
SIDE ANGLE SIDE
if 2 sides and the included angle of one triangle are congruent to 2 sides and the included angle of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
ASA
ANGLE SIDE ANGLE
if two angles and the included side of one triangle are congruent to two angles and the included side of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
Theorem example:
Side 1 is congruent with Side 2, what’s true about the opposite angles
If two sides of a triangle are congruent, then the angles opposite those sides are congruent
Angle 1 is congruent with Angle 2, what’s true about the opposite sides
If two angles of a triangle are congruent, then the sides opposite those angles are congruent
AAS Theorem
If two angles and a non-included side of one triangle are congruent to the corresponding parts of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
HL Theorem
If the hypotenuse and a leg of one right triangle are congruent to the corresponding parts of another right triangle, then the triangles are congruent
Corollary 1
An equilateral triangle is also equiangular
Corollary 2
An equilateral triangle has three 60 degree angles
Corollary 3
The bisector of the vertex of an isosceles triangle is perpendicular to the base at its midpoint
