ch 9 middle chucnk Flashcards
Central Angle
An angle with its vertex at the center of the circle
The measure of a minor arc is-
-the measure of its central angle
The measure of a major arc is-
-found by subtracting the measure of the minor arc from 360 degrees
Semicircles
The two arcs of a circle that are cut off by a diameter
Adjacent arcs
Adjacent arcs of a circle are arcs that have exactly one point in common
Arc addition postulate
The measure of the arc formed by two adjacent arcs is the sum of the measures of these two arcs
In the same circle or in congruent circles, two minor arcs are congruent if and only if-
-their central angles are congruent
1 In the same circle or in congruent circles, (2)
1) Congruent arcs have congruent chords
2) Congruent chords have congruent arcs
A diameter that is perpendicular to the chord-
-bisects the chord and its arc
2 In the same circle or in congruent circles, (2)
1) Chords equally distant from the center (or centers) are congruent
2) Congruent chords are equally distant from the center (or centers)
Inscribed angle
An angle whose vertex is a circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle
The measure of an inscribed angle is equal to-
-half the measure of its intercepted arc
If two inscribed angles intercept the same arc,
then the angles are congruent
An angle that’s inscribed in a semicircle is-
-a right triangle
If a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle,
then its opp. angles are supp.
