ch 9 first two ch Flashcards
Circle
The set of points in a plane at a given distance (radius) from a given point (center) in that plane
Center
The given point
Radius
The given distance; all radii of a circle are congruent
Chord
A SEGMENT whose endpoints lie on a circle
Secant
A LINE that contains a chord
Diameter
a CHORD that contains the center of a circle
Tangent
a line in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle at exactly one point
Sphere
(with center O and radius R) the set of all points in space at a distance R from point O
Congruent Circles (Or spheres)
Circles (Or spheres) that have congruent radii
Concentric circles
Circles that lie in the same plane and also have the same center
Concentric spheres
Spheres that have the same center
A polygon that is inscribed in a circle means
all the vertexs of the the polygon lies on the circle
Tangent theorem!!
If a line is a tangent to a circle,
then the line is perpendicular to the radius drawn to the point of tangency
Point of tangency
where the tangent line meets the circle
Tangent theorem again, but converse of the last!!
If a line in the plane of the circle is perpendicular to the radius,
Its a tangent line
