What are first impressions?
often have enormous staying power: even when they're wrong can persist even when they're erroneous: sometimes can correct but not, because they are the only first impressions we get our preconceptions control our interpretations of information about others

primacy effects: tend to remember the first things we heard, rather than the later ones confirmation bias: receive information that is consistent with our belief, and ignore the information that is inconsistent overconfidence: people can be really confident but really wrong
