Unit 3 Part 1 Flashcards
Force vs. Strength
Definition of Strength?
Strength is the capacity of the musculoskeletal system to develop tension to overcome, oppose, or withstand external resistance.
Musculoskeletal Actions
What types of actions must the musculoskeletal system perform?
The system must perform isometric, concentric, and eccentric actions, with dynamic movements occurring at various speeds.
How is force related to strength?
Force is the physical influence that can cause an object to move or change its state. Strength is the ability to exert force against resistance.
Dynamic Actions
What are the dynamic actions involved in strength training?
Dynamic actions include concentric (muscle shortening), eccentric (muscle lengthening), and isometric (muscle contraction without movement).
