Unit 3 - Human Fieldwork Flashcards
Explain why this is a suitable topic for a geographical enquiry
Geography involves the study of urban areas (cities)
Over half the world’s population is urbanised
Governments and councils have a duty to make cities pleasant places to live in, for citizens
Assess the suitability of the choice of fieldwork location
Advantages -
Accessible from school (TFL for an hour), affordable (£2), pedestrianised areas = low-risk
Disadvantages -
Why did the Stratford area need regeneration?
Derelict
Industrial
Low income
A lack of affordable housing
Low-quality housing
Inadequate transport system
Crime levels
Unemployment levels
Low school attainment
How has the area been regenerated?
London Stadium (60,000)
Affordable housing for all income groups
Westfield retail outlet centre
Urban ‘greening’ - planting trees
New facilities
Transport hub - buses, tube, Chiltern, TfL rail
Justify the use of one primary data collection method used in your human
enquiry
Questionnaire - ‘closed’ questions
Closed questions allow responses to be quantified/compared
Risk assessment
Dealing with the public - all students, low-risk, surveys done in groups with a member of staff nearby
Crossing busy roads - all students, low-risk, cross only at official crossing points (traffic lights, zebra crossing)
Getting lost - all students, low risk, emergency phone number and registers
Data processing and presentation
Assess how effective your presentation technique(s) were in representing
the data collected in this enquiry
