Incidences and emergencies

A

No matter how careful you are and how much planning you do, there will be an emergency that you have not thought of all planned for.
You cannot control everything and sometimes people may act recklessly or carelessly.
You need to have a plan and policies in place to deal with these situations if they arise.

A

We are going in health and social care means that you will come across some of the most vulnerable members of society.
People can be anxious regarding their health, care or treatment and this can lead them to be coming frustrated.
Some individuals may be suffering with issues that cause them to become aggressive or even dangerous such as those threatening staff or other service users with harm or suicide.
It is important as it happens social care worker that you keep yourself safe, but if the situation arises be in a position where you follow procedures when dealing with these types of incidences.

A

Health, social care and childcare environments are legally required to have individuals who are trained and able to administer first aid.

This is provide an immediate treatment to an individual to preserve life.
This may be the only intervention required depending on the situation or is offered until the emergency services arrive and take over such as in a serious incident.

Being a first aider

A

You will need to be fully trained and aware of the responsibilities that you have as a first aider.
You may be called on to deal with a wide range of situations and you need to be able to act in an efficient and appropriate manner.

Responsibilities of being a first aider

A

Assessing the area where the incident has occurred for danger, as you do not need more than one person need an intervention or help.
DRAB Is the acronym used-danger, response, airway, breathing-this is used to assess and unconscious patient.
Prevention of further harm- by intervening you are not making things worse.
Maintain an individual’s dignity and treating them with respect.
Getting assistance/help.
Staying with the individual until help arrives.
