What is the difference between roles and responsibilities?
Roles- expectations of an individual or an organisation.
Responsibilities- requirements and duties of roles.
Physiotherapist
Treating people with physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. Identifying the problems and helping to maximise patient mobility using manual therapy and therapy exercises.
Healthcare assistant
Providing hands-on care to patients with all kinds of problems: people recovering from surgery, people with cancer or other illnesses, elderly patients and young people. Updating bedside records and preparing care plan for patient recovery.
The intensive care nurse
Providing one-to-one patient care for seriously ill people, monitoring and registering all the support equipment needed to keep patients alive.
Employers roles
These are organisations that provide services and employ a range of care practitioners.
Employers operate within a range of different sectors which impacts on the expectations of them.
Sectors and employers in health, social care and childcare
Statutory- Health and social care which includes NHS and the local authority
Private-care manager of the care home owners
Third sector/voluntary-include charities such as age UK, NSPCC

Employees
These are individuals who work for organisations in a wide range of roles.
They provide care and support for individuals in a range of settings with a range of varying needs.
It is important that they are trained so that they can meet their service users needs and keep them safe.
Responsibilities
These are required of both employers and employees within health and social care settings regarding health, safety and security.
Responsibilities include:
Promoting, maintain and enforcing health and safety policies and procedures.
Employees need to use equipment correctly as per the training and report any gaps in health and safety that could endanger lives.
Service users need to understand health and safety policies and practices that operate within the setting they use, ensuring they follow instructions.
Regulation of settings
In order to ensure that settings remain safe environment they are regulated and inspected and judged against a range of standards.
The CQ see regulations health and social care whilst PACEY oversee childcare settings, promoting best practice.
Consequences of not meeting responsibilities
Costs that are directly e.g. claims on insurance, sick pay or fines
Costa or indirect e.g. recruitment, overtime or low staff morale
Disciplinary action e.g. warnings: verbal, first written, final and dismissal
Prosecution e.g. civil or criminal law
Removal from professional registers e.g. medical
Causing injury or harm
Been injured or harmed
