Unit 2 Terms- Neurons Flashcards
1
Q
Which way does the action potential travel?
A
Dendrites to Terminals (ONLY THIS WAY)
2
Q
Explain how the process of a neuron firing is similar to toilet flushing
A
good job
3
Q
What is the process of neurons communicating
A
- Outside stimulation causes neuron to fire (another neuron, senses, etc)
- Action potential travels down the axon to the terminals
- Neurotransmitters release from the terminals and cross the synaptic gap
- bind to receptors of the receiving neuron
*Excess neurotransmitters are either broken down by enzymes, float away, or are absorbed back into the sending neuron by reuptake
*Excitatory arouse the body and inhibitory do the opposite
