Saints are people who have lived an extraordinary and holy life. They are living reminders that God’s love can work miracles in us. Saints are often worshipped through holidays like St. Patrick’s Day.

What is Veneration?
An honor or title given to a deceased person whose life is being investigated to determine whether they have lived a virtuous (Saintly) life. Begins with a recommendation to the local Bishop who does research to see if the persons name should be forwarded to the Vatican.

The second step of Canonization. It is the recognition by the Church of a dead person’s accession to heaven and capacity to intercede on behalf of individuals who pray in his or her name (intercession of Saints).

What is Canonization?
Third step or becoming a Saint. It is the actual process of declaring someone as a Saint
It starts many years after one’s death in order to give perspective on the candidate. The candidate’s life is studied to see if they lived in such a way the he/she qualifies for this. If the Pope feels there is enough information to support that the candidate was a “hero” he declares him/her a “Saint”.
