Describe the sacrament of Baptism.
While Baptizing the priest will immerse the candidate in water and pour water over their head while saying, “I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” The church baptizes infants because they are born of original sin, and need to be freed from the power of Evil becoming a child of God, or “a son of light.” Baptism signals the beginning of Christian life.
Describe the sacrament of Confirmation.
This sacrament confirms and strengthens baptismal grace. It roots the recipient more deeply in the way of Christ and binds him more firmly to the Church. Only those already baptized can receive this sacrament, which is known as “the seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Describe the sacrament of Holy Eucharist.
This is the centre of Christian life because it’s where we meet Christ. The Eucharist is essentially a reminder for the very sacrifice, which Christ offered to the Father on behalf of mankind. It contains the whole spiritual good of the Church. Christ is consumed (wheat bread and grape wine) and the mind is filled with grace and a foretaste of eternal life.
Describe the sacrament of Penance.
Christ instituted this sacrament for those who have been seperated from him by sin. The candidate tells their sins to a priest and in return the priest exercises his power to forgive those sins, “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Christ entrusted his apostles with this sacrament (on the evening of Easter), and in turn the Church (priests).
Describe the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.
Anyone who is in danger of death because of sickness or old age can receive this sacrament. The priest anoints the participant with blessed oil on the forehead and hands. Sometimes this sacrament can bring about health again. In any case this anointing prepares the sick person for the journey to the Father’s House.
Describe the sacrament of Holy Orders.
Through this sacrament one is “ordained” as a member of the priesthood. This grants priests the ability to excercise a sacred power for the service of the people of God.
Describe the sacrament of Matrimony.
This sacrament calls man and woman to love. In marriage the man and the woman enter into an intimate communion of life and love. They became, “… no longer be two, but one flesh.” Through this celebration it is also God’s wish for the woman and man to multiply and educate their children in the way of Christ.
