Unit 2 - Movement Flashcards
1
Q
Fibrous Joint
A
- Immovable or slightly movable
- held together with fibrous connective tissue
- some have the tissue between the length of the bone
- ex.) cranial sutures, teeth into sockets, between the tibula and fibia and radius and ulna
2
Q
Cartilaginous Joint
A
- Immovable or slightly movable
- Can be fibro or hyaline cartilage
3
Q
Immovable Fibro cartilage
A
- Holds intervertebral disks
4
Q
Slightly movable Hyline cartilage
A
- Sternum to ribs (coastal cartilage)
5
Q
Synovial Joints
A
- Freely moving
- Synovial fluid within a sac surrounding a joint
- cavity = sac
6
Q
Articular cartalige
A
covers the surface of the bone
7
Q
Joint cavity
A
cavity filled with synovial fluid at only the articular surface
8
Q
Joint capsule
A
fibrous cavity that extends past bone condyles, etc.
9
Q
Synovial fluid
A
lubracinte within the cavity
10
Q
Ligaments
A
bond like, for reinforcement, connects bone to bone
11
Q
Nerves and blood vessles
A
are in the capsule membranes
12
Q
Pivot
A
- rotation at the C1 and C2 vertabrae
- supination and pronation at radius
- ex.) C1, C2, left and right radius
13
Q
Hinge
A
- one direction
- door hinge
- flexion and extension
- Ex.) elbow, knee, phalanges
14
Q
Ball and socket
A
- most movable
- bones to turn and spin on axis
- rotate, abduct, adduct, flexion, extension, circumduction
- ex.) shoulders, hips
15
Q
Saddle
A
- allows oppositional motion (each bone can move opposite at the same time)
- ex.) thumb, big toe (1st metatarsal, carpal - cuniform, trapezium), proximal ends of the ulna
