Cardiovascular system Flashcards
1
Q
What type of flow do arteries have?
A
High pressure flow
2
Q
What type of flow do veins have
A
Meh flow
3
Q
What type of flow do capillaries have?
A
Exchange
4
Q
Describe arteries
A
- Blood moves away from the heart
- Thick walls and high flexibility
- 3 layered wall (tunica externa, tunica media, tunica interna)
5
Q
Describe veins
A
- Carry blood to the heart
- low pressure
- the same 3 layers of tissue, but different thicknesses (less thick)
- Valves - flow is maintained by respirtory and muscular pressure
6
Q
Describe capillaries
A
- Pass blood from arteries - veins
- very thin and have 1 layer of tissue to allow easy exchange
- shunt in place of valve
7
Q
What is in the pulmonary circuit
A
Heart and lungs
8
Q
What is in the systemic circuit
A
Heart and body
9
Q
Describe the pulmonary circuit
A
- carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs in arteries
- carries oxygenated blood to the heart in veins
- pulmonary trunk, arteries, and veins
10
Q
Describe the systemic circuit
A
- carries oxygenated blood to the body in arteries
- carries deoxygenated blood to the heart in veins
- aorta –> body, vena cavas –> heart
11
Q
Structure/position of heart
A
- Heart is almost all cardiac muscle
- very large mitochondria
- striations to guide the direction of contractions
- spontaneous depolarization
- no impulse to pulse
- the SA node creates its own electircla impulse, natural pacemaker
12
Q
Superior vena cava
A
return of deoxygenated blood from the upper body
13
Q
Right atrium
A
- covered by the auricle
- recieves deoxygenated blood
14
Q
Coronary blood vessles
A
- provide the oxygen to the heart muscle
- coronary sinus
15
Q
Right ventricle
A
- recieves the deoxygenated blood from the right atrium
