dot maps
important feature is the size of the dot, placement and the distribution. requires raw data. used for population and value of crops
isoline maps
used for weather and rainfalls ect, shows a country on the map with those lines over them. shows gradual change over an area
choropleth maps
uses averages to compare data, regions or countries such as land ownership, recreational land and percentage of voters. Good for showing patters of something
proportional symbols
shows differences between places for a specific location -
flow maps
used to show flow and direction of movement with arrows on a pic of world/country. can be used for traffic, migration and river discharge
sphere of influence maps
map shows the speceial extent or impact of a place or geographical event on surrounding area. human and physical data. size and shape is what’s important
transects
is the one where you hold the edge of the paper to a map then mark down the lines and turn into a graph - joins two parts of a map or town/city together. used for environmental quality, traffic flows, soil profiles, vegetation and (beach) landscapes.
