Unit 1: data processing techniques Flashcards
Picture refrences are on physical flash cards
What does a system diagram look like and what is it used for
Visualises key data in a 3D format - shows systems cycles of how things work such as the water cycle, pictures with annotations basically
What does a kite diagram look like and what is it used for
Shows density distribution of plant and animal species
What does a polar graph look like and what is it used for
Good for corries, vegetation retail info and slopes - circular graphs and show variation over time - uses compass bearings
Rose diagram - specifically for wind
What does a dispersion diagram look like and what is it used for
dots as plot points to visulaise numbers on colums - must be in form that goes on number line
What does a triangular graph look like and what is it used for
Shows data that’s divided into three parts - such as soil, employment and housing - shows large amount of data but confusing to draw
What does a bipolar analysis look like and what is it used for
Shows similarities and differences- useful but not 100% accurate - shows large data on small space
Has writing on each side and data in between for instance tally’s on questions on surrounding area structure then you join the dot
Traffic survey methodology
Decide on how many sites to sample as the counts would need to take place at the same time at the sample locations so traffic volume can be compaired - 1
The traffic should be counted in both directions so two people may be needed at every site - 1
A count needs to be made at different times of the day, week and year to identify peak times and of the roads will cope with increased volume - 1
Sensors could be used to count the cars weight -1
