Unit 1.7 Cellular Respiration Flashcards
Describe the role of dehydrogenase in glycolysis
During the energy pay off phase, dehydrogenase enzymes release hydrogen ions which are then picked up by NAD, becoming NADH
Describe the role of dehydrogenase in the citric acid cycle
Dehydrogenase enzymes remove hydrogen ions and electrons from the respiratory substrate and pass them to NAD, becoming NADH
Describe the role of ATP in phosphorylation
ATP can be broken down into ADP+Pi to provide the phosphate required for phosphorylation of glucose and intermediates during the energy investment phase
State the location of the citric acid cycle
Matrix of mitochondria
What is the role of NAD in respiration
NAD collects hydrogen ions and electrons and carries them to the electron transport chain
State the location of the electron transport chain
The inner mitochondrial membrane
