What is active immunization?
Administration of all or part of microorganism or modified product of microorganism to evoke immune response. No threat to recipient.
What is passive immunity?
those already exposed to infectious agents-administration of preformed antibody
What patients need special consideration in vaccinating?
pre term infants, immunocompromised, HIV infection, lack spleen, person or family history of seizures
What is one of the only groups that receives primary varicella vaccination?
children with ALL in remission
What vaccinations can cause seizures in infants w/ h/o or family h/o seizures?
DTaP and MMR
Children taking what med should not receive vaccines?
corticosteroids
What groups are at risk for influenza related complications?
over 50 y/o, children 6-23 months, pulmonary disease, second or third trimaster
When is chemoprophylaxis used for influenza? What are examples?
within 2 days of symptoms onset. Tamilflu, Symmetryl
what are contraindications to vaccinating?
allergic reaction to egg related antigens, mercury sensitivity, febrile illness
What is a commonly used system to test level of dependence on nicotine?
Fagerstom tolerance test
What is the normal dosing for buproprion for smoking cessation?
150mg qd x3 days, then 150 bid x7-12 weeks
what is normal dosing for chantix?
0.5mg qd x3 days, then 0.5mg bid x4 days, then 1mg bid x12-24weeks.
how long are nicotine patches left on?
16-24 hours
In what instance is tingling normal w/ nicotine patches? When is it NOT normal?
for first minute it is normal. If it persists >4 days, call doctor
What are common doses of nicotine gum?
2mg and 4mg
