Identify #1

Name the following:
-Origin/insertion
- Action it creates
- Innervation
- Blood supply

A

gastrocnemius

GO BACK AND ADD BLOOD SUPPLY

Origin:
◘Lateral head: lateral aspect of lateral condyle of femur
◘Medial head: popliteal surface of femur, superior to medial condyle

Insertion: posterior surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon

Action:
◘ plantar flexion of ankle when knee is extended
◘ Raises heel during walking
◘ Flexion of knee joint

Innervation: Tibial nerve (S1, S2)

Q

What is this? Why is it important?

A

Popliteal fossa

Many important structures pass through the popliteal fossa. According to Kenhub, they are:
- Nerves: tibial, common fibular, sural, posterior femoral cutaneous
- Vessels: popliteal artery and vein, short saphenous vein
- Lymph nodes: superficial and deep popliteal lymph nodes

Q

What muscle is this?

Name:
- Origin/insertion
- Action it creates
- Innervation
- Blood supply

A

Sartorius

  • Origin: anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
  • Insertion: proximal end of tibia, below the medial condyle
  • Action:
◘ Hip joint: thigh flexion, thigh abduction, external rotation of thigh
◘ Knee joint: leg flexion, leg internal rotation
  • Innervation: femoral nerve (L2-L3)
  • Blood supply:
◘ Proximal third: branches of femoral artery, deep femoral artery, artery of quadriceps, lateral circumflex femoral artery
◘ Middle third: branches of femoral artery
◘ Distal third: branches of femoral and descending genicular arteries
