Philosophy
Intellectual discipline that uses careful reasoned argument to elucidate fundamental questions.
Natural Selection
Process by which genetically determined behaviors that improve the ability to survive and reproduce are passed onto future generations.
Physiology
Having to do with an organism’s physical processes.
Nature v. Nurture
Nature: influenced by genetic inheritance & other biological factors.
Nurture: influence of external factors after conception.
Structuralism
Theory of consciousness that seeks to analyze the elements of mental experience.
Functionalism
The theory that mental processes, such as thinking, learning, and memory, can be wholly or mainly explained by the associative links.
Behaviorism
Theory of learning that suggests that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning processes.
Psychoanalytic
The study of the unconscious/deep mind

Considers biological, psychological, and social factors.
Psychodynamic
Psychology of mental or emotional forces or processes developing especially in early childhood.
Sociocultural
Stresses the role that social interaction plays in psychological development.
Humanistic
A movement in psychology supporting the belief that humans, as individuals, are unique beings.
Clinical Psychology
Psychological specialty that provides continuing and comprehensive mental and behavioral health care.
Counseling Psychology
Specialty within professional psychology hat helps people improve their mental heath and well-being.
