independent variable
The variable that the experimenter decides to change to see if there is or is not an effect.
dependent variable
The variable to the experiment that responds to the change.
universal precautions
the set of procedures used to avoid contact with body fluids and to reduce the risk of spreading HIV and other diseases.
hypothesis
A testable prediction, often implied by a theory.
experiment
A research method in which an investigator manipulates one or more factors to observe the effect on some variable.
conclusion
A judgement based on the information obtained.
prototype
A full-scale working model used to test a design concept by making actual observations and necessary adjustments.
metric system
The system of measurement used in science that is based on units of 10. {Length - meters, Mass - grams, Volume - liters}
accuracy
A description of how close a measurement is to the true value of the quantity measured.
precision
The degree to which repeated measurements show the same result.
