Circulatory System Flashcards
Heart
a muscular organ in most animals, which pumps blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system.
Veins (superior vena cava * inferior vena cava)
blood vessels that carry blood toward the heart.
Arteries (aorta)
he blood vessels that deliver oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the tissues of the body.
Capillaries
the minute blood vessels that form networks throughout the bodily tissues
Atrium (left and right)
Upper chambers that receive blood.
Right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body.
Left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs
Ventricle (left and right)
Lower chambers that pump blood.
Right ventricle pumps deoxygenated blood from the body, to the lungs.
Left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood from the body, to the lungs
Valve
Parts of the heart that keep blood flowing in the right direction
Pulmonary Circulation
The portion of the circulatory system that carries blood to the lungs and then back to the heart.
Systemic circulation
.The portion of the circulatory system that carries blood throughout the body and then back to the heart.
Lymphatic system
The network of vessels that moves white blood cells throughout the body
