Sexual reproduction
Two parents contribute genetic information to produce unique offspring.
Asexual reproduction
Generates offspring that are genetically identical to a single parent.
Fertilization
the joining of sperm and an egg resulting in production of a zygote.
Egg
the female reproductive cell (gamete). It contains contains genetic information from the mother and all cellular components necessary for the early development and nutrition of the embryo.
Sperm
The male reproductive cell (gamete). Sperm are small and contain little more than the father’s genes.
Scrotum
a pouch of skin containing the testicles.
Penis
The outer sex organ of men and male animals, which is used for sex and through which waste water comes out of the body.
Fallopian tubes
a pair of tubes along which eggs travel from the ovaries to the uterus.
Uterus
The hollow muscular organ in female mammals in which the fertilized ovum normally becomes embedded and in which the developing embryo and fetus is nourished.
Vagina
The moist canal in most female mammals that extends from the cervix of the uterus to an external opening between the labia minora.
Ovaries
the female gonad or reproductive gland, in which the egg and the hormones that regulate female secondary sex characteristics develop.
Testes
the male gonad or reproductive gland, in which the sperm and the hormones that regulate male secondary sex characteristics develop
