In 1950, most people in China lived in the countryside.
In 1950, 88% of people lived in rural areas.
Over the year the number of people living in cities (urban areas) has increased. This is because migration has been taking place.
By 2020 it is predicted that the number of people living in the cities will overtake the number of people living in the countryside.
