Class Analysis
This is the study of power dyanmics and societal structures based on social and economic classes
Empirical Analysis
Analysis that involves explaining various aspects of politics, particularly by using careful observation and comparsion to develop generalizations and testable theories
Normative Analysis
Analysis that includes examining ideas about how the community should be governed and what values should be pursued through politics
Policy Anaylsis
The systematic process of evaluating and assessing existing policies to understand their implications
Authority
Socially approved power and legitmacy
Legal-Rational Authority
The right to rule based on legal rules and procedures
Traditional Authority
Authority based on customs that establish the right of certain persons to rule.
Free-Rider problem
A problem with voluntary collective action that results because an individual can enjoy the benefits of the group action without contributing
Institutionalism
The study of formal and informal structures, rules, and norms within political systems andhow they shape political behaviour, decision making, and outcomes
Pluralism
A political system in which a large number of groups representing a wide variety of interests are able to influence the decisions of government.
Power Over
The idea that individuals, groups, or
states are unable to realize their interests and
goals due to external influe nces, constraints,
and inequalities in resources.Relates to a persons ability to exert influence over others
Power to
The ability for a person to act, or participate in the political processes.
Power
The ability to achieve an objective by influencing the behaviour of others.
Distribution of Power
The analysis of how power is distributed and what resources affects ones ability to attain power.
Three Faces of PowerF
1st Face: Ability to affect decisions. 2nd Face: The ability to ensure that issues are not raised. 3rd Face: ability to affect the dominany ideas of society.
