underfame a1 Flashcards
what is a frequency generator and where are they?
monitors the rotation of the wheel, on wheels 1,3,5,7- feeds back info for wheel slip protection
what and where is the speedo generator?
speedometer on axle box of wheel 8, not train lined
which has the tread brake?
the westcode, older one
knorr is newer uses disc brakes like a car
isolating cocks under the driver
red ec yellow techav main res to brake controller
who may use a ripcord to uncouple?
maintenance staff only
on the schafenberg couple which side is set up for electrical connections?
A side, B side is for non electrical
which cock is on the B side of a schafenberg?
the B side is the main res isolating cock, the brake pipe isolating cock is on the A side
where is the transition coupler?
beneath the van on the A side, needs to be inspected that it is help in place with padlock (5p)
where is the pantograph storage res?
under the van area, closer to A side/outside than the equalising res, which is closer to the B side and the brakes
what is the equalising res?
a component of the brake controller equipment and allows brake pipes to be charged, on the A side of the under frame but closer to the B side than the panto storage res
where and what is the no.1 air suspension isolating cock?
controls main red to bogie 1, located between and above wheels 1 and 2, before the SPB isolating cock
what is an air compressor
electric motor that supplies compressed air to the main red, operates on 1500vDC via motor alternators
What is a control reservoir?
operates EP valves in the main equipment case, holds air for the control governor to brake or make the circuit that gives traction power depending on things like BP pressure
wheel slip unit
check it’s on via the green light
what and where is the compressor governor isolating cock
a pair of cocks is the left hand side one next to the control resvior out isolating cock- if the compressor governor isolating cock is turned the compressor governor thinks there is 0 compressors and keeps running
what is the control res out isolating cock?
stops air to the EP valves in the main equipment case
how do you manually release brake cylinder air to atmosphere?
there is a hand release wire under the B side drivers seat
what are the three electrical cases
main equipment case
line breaker case
auxiliary equipment case
what and where is the main isolating switch?
for the lone breakers and traction motors on the left hand side of the line breaker case, on the right hand side is the panto interlock and auxiliary isolate switch (interlocked switches, the aux can’t be isolated until the panto is down)
what would happen if the train were to break at the semi permanent coupler? (motor to trailer)
brake pipe would rupture- emergency brakes
what is the isolating cock on the b side of the coupler?
main res
what are the cables where the trains are semi-permanently coupled?
fat one is the brake pipe, other one is main res, lower down is 1x 110v DC and 2x 415v AC cables and CCTV cable, the power cables are a 415, 110, 415 sandwich
emergency lighting container
a battery, shows status by green light on the front knorr and circuit breaker on the side westcode- is a box on the B side
where is the number 2 bogie air suspension isolating cock?
between wheels 5 and 6
where is the number 2 bogie spring park brake isolating cock?
near wheel 6
motor alternator
operates on 1500v DC and supplies 415v AC current for air con lighting circuits and traction cooling fan
what do the 415v AC cables do?
there are 2 in each car and each powers ever second thing, saloon lights, head lights, air cons, and traction cooling fans
what is the cock on the left hand B side of the main equipment case?
load compensation isolating cock (is obscure and shitty placed) the thing that controls the rheo braking in relation to passenger weight
DOOR ISOLATING COCKS
next to the main equipment case and hidden by the air dryer. closest to outside is B, middle is A and farthest in is ‘door system’
where is the air dryer system?
adjacent to the brake unit (b side), is a box that removes moisture and crap from the compressed air system
brake unit left to right
seven step relay valve
variable load valve (lower)
restricted application magnet valve
hand release wire (lower)
restricted application limiting valve and ball check valve
release ensuring valve
by pass check valve (upper)
triple valve
if your behind the brake unit on your left you have the
brake pipe to triple valve isolating cock (EP) and main res to seven step relay isolating cock
what is the cock on the left of the unit facing it from the front behind the seven step relay?
control res IN isolating cock, stops main res air to control res
which is the main res
toward 1 end of B side next to Aux res, revives stores and cools large volumes of air, is deeper in than aux res
what is the aux res?
infront of the main res for air braking
