Q

defective release prevention valve

A

this is defective if when you move the handle back towards a release position the tripple valve releases the brake and charges the BP (bad)

Q

defective regulating valve

A

if the BP is low and it’s not depleting rapidly (which would suggest a rupture) it’s the regulating valve, if it’s between 425 and 550 it’s ok under 425 your disables
if you have a CE they can charge another BVICS close yours and 15km nearest siding emergency brakes only

Q

brake controller moving involuntarily

A

to a more applied position- hold it in place
to a less applied position- unlikely to happen on the air so trip out the EP drive on the air

Q

why can’t we go around with 2 BVICS open

A

because the second one will charge the BP so we can’t use air brake

Q

why might the auto air brake release during application?

A

leaking brake cylinders
defective tripple valves
brake controller faults
oil/dirt/water in the braking system

signs it’s releasing:
sound of air in the charging valve
brake cylinder decreasing pressure
ineffective braking - bring the train to a stand and go back to EP fan the handle then trip it back out and make a full service application. then recharge BP

Q

failure of charging valve

A

if the BVICS is open and the handle isn’t in emergency and it’s not charging:
(RTA SPB) check MR to brake controller
if it’s open close it
trip the EP out and fan the handle between released and emergency (reduces MR pressure and may free the valve) open the cock and see if it charges (check SPB)
if not:
leave BVIC open step 7 EP in
ensure park brakes are applied
open BVICS in another motor
charge BP and apply and isolate
