neu Flashcards
motor alternator
runs off 1500v DC outputs 415vAC (air con, traction cooling fan, lightings circuits including headlights) also output 110 train lines functions
located on Motor cars the MA’s there are 2 cables connected to the opposite end of the three car and they do half of everything each so if you lose one you still have half lights fan and air con
what goes through the coupler
110
MR BP
CCTV
(not 415vAC)
what runs on 1500v DC
air compressors
motor alternators
traction motors
1500v doesn’t run to a T car only serves its immediate car
do we operate the panto interlock aux isolate or main switch if they are isolated?
we never touch them
battery box coloured lights
red is low
green is receiving trickle charge
any light is good
main res receives stores and cools
always getting topped up
auxiliary res, for brake cylinders when air braking
not always getting topped up
APES
aux
pre control- makes the train stop faster
EP res- air braking
supplementary- on a motor as well as trailer for knorr
SPB
hold button 5 seconds for trainlined
red on green off
trainlined buttons become energised 60 seconds after MA comes on
operate automatically when the reverser goes to off or 60 seconds after reverser is placed in neutral
knorr SPB
release one turn anti clockwise
cannot be manually reapplied, only way is for main res to be supplied to release the spring
westside SPB
release 6-8 anti-clockwise
apply 40-60 clockwise or main res releases the spring
do not attempt to manually apply a SPB while main res is being supplied to it
how do you introduce the emergency circuit
RTA
turn the cock
isolate VICERS
set the foot
press the control governor bypass push button
if the brake pipe is charged when you turn the red EC it will be dumped so careful of hearing/ dump BP before turning
if the red EC turned in a non driving cab you won’t be able to charge the BP cos no one is there to set the foot and press the button
that’s why we have the yellow one, it allows us to charge the BP with one of those faults in a trailing motor
how do you apply and isolate
emergency
close the BIVICS
check park brake is applied
if there is something wrong with the EP and your running on the air how do you do a cab modified unattended?
you have to apply and isolate
and usual stuff
how long will the DDU remember after loss of overhead?
3 mins
CCTV is not available in a loss of overhead
PEI
will time out after 90 seconds, answer with the DDU fist mic, it will come up and show you the carriage number on the screen
it will say passenger emergency on the bottom of the screen and footage will come up after you answer it
if you back trip
locate the lowered trip
open the BIBICS reset and lower trip
close BIVICS
tell TC
open lead BIVICS
EXTREME CAUTION to next fixed signal
incident report
tripping in the section
check you haven’t derailed
brake handle into emergency
TEC call give location and lead motor number
make a PA announcement
receive permission to reset the trip and travel at extreme caution to the next fixed signal
reset VICERS
Coast / off
BP below 25kpa
10 seconds
press acknowledge button
run and release recharge BP
if the VICERS activation valve won’t stop exhausting BP air to atmosphere
RTA turn the red EC
how can you figure out which can has the VAV activated? or which unit has the BP rupture
apply and isolate (full cab unattended)
SPB applied
RTA if needed
isolate BP end cock on trailing centre motor
enter leading centre motor
ensure SPB applied and attempt to charge the BP
how can we make sure we don’t have a main res leak
go to emergency and dump all your BP if your main res is steady it’s fine
once we identified which unit a BP leak is on how do we find it?
open the BIVICS and leave it in step 7
walk around looking for a blow of air
attempt to plug the leak
removing the train from the section BP defect
always 15km/h
must always be driven from the longest continuous portion of BP
CE required to either apply SPB to an end car or communicate track and signals from the lead to a driver who is
propelling from another cab
detrain passengers at first available location
shunted to first available siding
if at any time communication is lost between CE and driver train must be stopped
if the BP rupture is in car 1,2,3 of a 6 car train
you will need a CE in the lead motor to look out for signals and obstructions and be prepared to operate the SPB if required
isolate the end cocks of the defective
release the air brake with the hand release valve
select a suitable cab
ensure all other BIVICS are closed
turn the red EC
trip out the EP drive on the air
BP rupture car 6
isolate the end cock
drive on the air ???
15km/h
CE to operate SPB in case the train splits
BP rupture 4 or 5 if CE is available
isolate end cocks, release air brake with hand release valve
trip out the EP drive on the air 15km/h max power and brake from the lead
CE in trailing motor, charge BP and close BIVICS monitor BP pressure and operate can area cock if required
BP rupture 4 or 5 CE unavailable
isolate ends cocks
release air brake with hand release valve
isolate MR to 7 step relay on defective car
open the BVICS on trailing motor and place controller to run and release
return to lead open BVICS charge BP
drive on the EP
power and brake from lead max 15km/h
what gives you the extra 10%
restricted application limiting valve and ball check valve
what does the variable load valve do
adjusts breaking performance according to load
what does the restricted application magnet valve
prevents simultaneous EP and rheo on motor cars like the one that gives you the extra 10% but not quite cos it doesn’t have all those extra words
