Ultrafiltration Flashcards
1
Q
What is ultrafiltration?
A
Where fluid from the glomerulus filters into the Bowmans Capsule
2
Q
Why is there a high hydrostatic pressure in the glomerulus?
A
Efferent arteriole is smaller than afferent arteriole
3
Q
What are Podocytes?
A
Cells that give structure to the Bowmans Capsule
4
Q
How are molecules filtered into the glomerular filtrate?
A
The basement membrane between blood and glomerular filtrate.
Basement membrane is a mesh of collagen fibres that prevents large proteins or molecules over a certain side from entering the filtrate
5
Q
What molecules enter the filtrate?
A
Water, Urea, Amino Acids, Glcuose, Inorganic Ions
6
Q
Where is the water potential higher?
A
In the glomerular filtrate
