Selective Reabsorption Flashcards
What is selective reabsorbtion?
The reabsoprtion of useful substances from the glomerular filtrate back into the blood.
Where does selective reabsorbtion occur?
Proximal Convoluted Tubule (PCT)
How much of the filtrate is reabsorbed?
80%
What is the water potential?
Filtrate is isotonic to blood.
Same osmotic pressure
What adaptations does the PCT have to aid selective reabsorption ?
Convoluted - increase S.A
Microvilli - increase S.A
Mitochondria - provide ATP for active transport
Carrier Proteins - provide a route for reabsorption
Own blood supply
What substances are reabsorbed?
Water, Glucose, Amino Acids/ Small Proteins
How is sodium and glucose reabsorbed?
Symport Protein in the PCT
How does the symport protein work?
sodium causes glucose to attach.
