Osmoregulation Flashcards
Whre does osmoregualtion occur in the kidney?
DCT
CD
What hormone makes osmoregulation occur?
ADH
Anti diuretic hormone
Where is ADH made?
Hypothalamus
Where is ADH stored?
Posterior pituitary gland
What detects tha levek of water in thr body?
Osmoreceptors in the capillary walls of the hypothalamus
What are the cells involved with ADH in the Hypothalamus called?
Neurosecretory cells
What are aquaporins?
Channel proteins specific to water.
What happens when ADH is released?
More aquaporins are added onto membrane of CD and DCT
What is cAMP?
cyclic adenosine mono phosphate
secondary messenger to respond to create aquaporins
What happens to urine concentration when ADH is released?
More ADH means More water reabsorbed
= Dilute urine
What causes dehydration?
Sweating
What causes over hydration?
Drinking
When is ADH released?
When dehydrated.. to conserve more water
What colour is urine when there is ADH released?
Dark- concentrated
How much urine is produced when ADH is released?
Low volume of urine
