Why do the uplands have deep and narrow valleys?

Answer 1

Previous glaciers erode out the valleys making them wider. Left over water leaves misfit streams.

How are the uplands slopes shaped?

Answer 2

The slopes are steep as the glacier has eroded the sides. Scree is left which is the left over rock that has been broken. Freeze thaw weather is the constant expanding of water in cracks. The water expands by 10% when it freezes putting pressure on the rock. It then melts in the day. This continuously happens until the rock cracks.

What are pre glacial processes on the uplands?

The valleys used to be full of water back in the ice age. The water slowly eroded the the v shaped valley making it gradually wider.

Why are the lowlands shaped the way they are?

Answer 4

Melt water has run down the uk and eroded some pieces of land. This results in them being very long and shallow.

What are the lowland slope processes?

Answer 5

As the melt water has eroded the valley it means that the slopes are flat and very short. Most slopes are chalk as it is normally the top sedimentary layer. The back is called the dip slope as it slowly dips down.

Physical features of the uplands.

• sheep farmed eat grass, less interception causes flooding, flooding causes erosion.
• scree removed from slopes so that settlements could build houses.

• flatter land allows for more villages to be built close together as you can grow crops
• soft ground (clay and chalk) means no walls and fewer buildings as there are smaller amounts of large rock to build with
• less trees so there is more room for farmland
