City Change And Land Use 3.3 Flashcards
What is the difference between urbanisation and counter urbanisation?
Urbanisation is the movement of people towards the city, this is often after an influx of jobs being available and often happens while a city is developing. Counter urbanisation is the movement of people away from the city as they earn more money and can afford to pay for a bigger house with a big garden.
What is suburbanisation and why did it happen?
Suburbanisation is the movement of people into the suburbs of cities. This is often as a result of the mass crowding in the city and the major pollution causing people that have the money to move out of the city.
How did suburbanisation affect where people live?
Suburbanisation encouraged many people to move to the suburbs if they had the money. This increased the number of people in the suburbs but the cities population remained the same as before as people are constantly moving in.
Why did counter urbanisation happen?
Counter urbanisation happened as a result of people being able to work from home for a living as well as the housing being bigger in the suburbs.
What is re urbanisation and why did it happen?
Re urbanisation is when older cities start to rebuild over the brownfield sites they have as they are running out of space in the city. It attracts more people to live in the city as it opens up more housing and leisure activities.
What is the difference between commercial, industrial and residential land use?
Commercial- land is used for shops and offices of big brand businesses and bank, CBD
Industrial- land is used for factories to manufacture products for companies and brands, Inner City
Residential- land is used for housing people and very few larger grocery shops, suburbs
How does accessibility affect land use?
The more accessible the land is, the more desirable it is for shops as well as businesses. The Cbd is very accessible due to roads, rails and busses which means more people go into the city to spend money.
How does planning affect land use?
Planning means that brownfield sites can be easily built on to as they are not very desirable and rebuilding over them will help the area. The cbd can only have retail built in it due it being near main roads.
How does availability and cost affect land use?
The availability of land is often higher in the suburbs and rural urban fringe due to people moving to the city which causes the land cost to go down. Due to land in the cbd being so scarce, it results in the price of the land going up massively.
