UE Angiology Flashcards
What region of the Axillary A. is most susceptible to aneurysm? How does this happen?
Region one
Repeated rapid arm movement (baseball pitchers) –> compression of brachial plexus resulting in pain and loss of sensation
How can you cut off all blood supply to the arm?
Ligation distally to Subscapular A. due to extesnive anastomoses around the scapula
How do you reverse blood flow in the Subscapular A.? Why does this happen?
Ligation of the Axillary A. between the Thyrocervical Tunk and Subscapular A.
Due to collateral circulation arriving via Suprascapular, Transverse Cervical, and Intercostal A. to the scapular region and the continue feed of arterial blood to the Brachial A.
Where is the most common site of venipuntcure? Why?
Median Cubital V.
Superficial location and protection of underlying deep structures by the Bicipital Aponeurosis
What is the significance of the Axillary Lymph Nodes?
Frequent invasion by cancer cells from elsewhere in the body (usually breast)
