Back Angiology and Neurology Flashcards
What loss of function will occur in a C1-C3 spinal cord injury?
no function below the head
respirator needed for life
What loss of function will occur in a C4-C5 spinal cord injury?
no function of limbs
respiration capable
What loss of function will occur in a C6-C8 spinal cord injury?
loss of hand and variable upper limb function
may be able to propel wheelchair
What loss of function will occur in a T1-9 spinal cord injury?
paralysis of both lower limbs
What loss of function will occur in a T10-L1 spinal cord injury?
Some thing muscle function
may allow walking with long leg braces
What loss of function will occur in a L2-3 spinal cord injury?
most lower limb functions present
may be able to walk with short leg braces
What is the path of a lumbar puncture?
Skin Fat Fascia supraspinous L. intraspinous L. ligamentium falveum (POP) epidural space with internal vertebral plexus dura mater arachnoid mater subarachnoid
What are the five categories of structures innervated by the Recurrent Meningeal N. and posterior Rami of Spinal Nerves involved in back pain?
Fibroskeletal sturctures (Meningeal N. ) Meninges (Meningeal N.) Synovial Joints (Posterior rami) Intrinsic back muscles (posterior rami) Spinal nerves and roots (posterior rami)
What causes muscular back pain?
Spasm in msucular tissue producing ischemia
What causes joint back pain?
Osteoarthritis or disease arthritis
What causes fibroskeletal pain?
Fractures and dislocation of ligamentous structures
What are the three layers aka spinal meninges that cover the spinal cord?
Spinal dura matter= outermost tough covering
spinal arachnoid mater= thin membranous intermediate layer, lines the spinal dural sac, held firmly to the sac by pressure of the CSF which circulate in the subarachnoid space joining the arachnoid and pia matter
Pia mater= thinnest innermost covering of the spinal cord, follows entire surface of the Spinal Cord, lines the spinal roots
