Church
The community of Christians (church with a small c means a Christian place of worship)
Conscience
An inner feeling of the rightness or wrong is an action
The Decalogue
The 10 commandments
Democratic processes
The ways in which all citizens can take part in government (usually through elections)
Electoral processes
The ways in which voting is organised
The golden rule
The teaching of Jesus that you should treat others as you would like them to treat you
Human rights
The rights and freedoms to which everyone is entitled
Political party
A group which tries to be elected into power on the basis of its policies (e.g. labour, Conservative)
Pressure group
The government formed to influence government policy on a particular issue
Situation ethics
The idea that Christians should base moral decision making on what is the most loving thing to do
Social change
The way in which society has changed and is changing (and also the possibilities for future change)
Bible
The holy book of Christians
How do Christians use the Bible to make moral decisions (4)
- Many Christians believe the bible is the word of God
- The bible has authority from God about what Christians should believe in e.g. Follow the Ten Commandments
- Some Christians believe that only the Bible should be used to decide what is right, wrong and what they believe
- In the New Testament it gives examples of how Christians should live their lives (St Paul)
Give 4 ways that the church guides people
- Talking to other Christians
- Listening to the priest or vicar
- Praying and worshipping together
- Accepting the authority of the Church to explain and teach gods word
Give 2 ways the church decided on making moral decisions
- Some discuss in an assembly containing elected members of the Church. They decide on how members should respond
- Others look to the leaders of the church to make decisions on moral issues
