U2 day 7 + 8 + 9 Flashcards
Abdominal viscera nerve inn
Autonomic N.S. does unconscious motor movements, can receive pain. Parasympathetic is rest and digest, Cranial Nerve 10, vagus nerve, sympathetic is fight or flight. poorly localized pain in GI because they aren’t using autonomic neurons to communicate pain.
path of bolus

accessory organs
spleen, kidney, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, vermiform appendix
Unpaired arteries
Celiac Trunk: splenic a, Left Gastric a, Common Hepatic a.. Superior mesenteric a. Inferior mesenteric a.
Paired arteries
Renal aa, Gonadal aa, Lumbar aa, Common Iliac aa, External and Internal Iliac aa.
GI blood return
Veins come from GI tract to liver. Sup and inferior mesenteric vein feed into splenic v. that then feeds into the hepatic portal system.
two capillary beds
in wall of GI organs captures blood and brings to liver, in liver gives liver access to take out good and bad stuff, then anastomosis to inf. vena cava.
Blood return from GI
is independent of systemic return that goes straight to the heart, it has to go through the liver to be filtered before going back to the heart via inf. vena cava. NO VALVES IN VENUS RETURN - allows for blood flow in both directions.
Doorway to liver
can see Hepatic portal vein, proper hepatic a. left and right hepatic ducts.
portocaval Anastomoses
occur in sup and inf portion of GI system. very superior end at esophagus and very inferior end at rectum don’t have blood that goes to liver.
