U2 day 3 Flashcards
Spinal cord ends
begins foramen magnum, ends at sacrum
rule of 1s
where spinal cord doesn’t alien with the spinal bones of the vertebral column
Lateral Horn
present T1-L2, it is intermedial lateral cell column
Lower motor neurons
Only way to innervate target organ, “final common pathway” comes from ventral horn
White matter
myelin fat lines the cord (white looking) this makes messages travel faster
Long ascending processes
Sensory intake, takes information to brain stem, thalamus, and cerebellum.
Long Descending process
Motor neurons, upper motor neurons, originate in cerebellum and brain stem
Propriospinal fibers
remain in spinal cord, connects levels and sides of the spinal cord
Pia Mater
meninge layer, vasculature layer, sits directly on spinal cord with no space in between.
Conus megularis
end cone shape of spinal cord at boney level L2
Filum Termnile
anchors cord inferiorly, extension of pia mater. not nervous tissue
Denticulate ligaments
anchoring from cord to dura mater laterally
Arachnoid
superficial to pia mater, deep to dura mater
subarachnoid space
real space deep to the arachnoid, houses cerebral spinal fluid
Dura Mater
Very thick, final layer surrounding cord, most superficial
