Types Of Validity Flashcards
Face validity
Does something look like it will measure what is it supposed to measure?
Does an IQ test really measure intelligence?
Construct validity
Do measures relate to the assumed characteristics of what is being assessed?
Tape measure measuring the length of something
Concurrent validity
When a test correlates well with a measure that has previously been validated.
1 persons’ score on new test, should be same as old test.
Criterion validity
Includes concurrent validity/ predictive validity- extent to which a measure can predict performance or behaviour of the measured thing
The extent to which GCSEs can accurately predict A Levels
External validity
Looks at factors outside of study- who the study aimed to be representative of and where we can generalise findings of behaviour too.
Ecological validity
Both the tasks and the environment/ situation reflect those of real life situations
Population validity
Extent to which findings from one sample can be generalised to the whole population from which sample was taken.
