Levels Of Data Flashcards
1
Q
Nominal data:
A
Categories, such as: ‘yes’ ‘no’,
-Grant et al. Used this in multiple choice out of 16 in phase 2 of his procedure.
2
Q
Strengths of nominal:
A
- easy to generate, so large amounts of data collected quickly
- quick to find the mode to asses central tendency
3
Q
Weakness of nominal:
A
- points not on linear scale so mean and medians can’t be used
- can only use mode as a measure of spread
4
Q
Ordinal:
A
- subjective (rating depression)
- can be numbers or words
- like a likehert scale
5
Q
Strength of ordinal:
A
- more informative than nominal
- easy to generate
6
Q
Weaknesses of ordinal:
A
- maybe invalid- scale can be interpret the scale differently
- a mean can’t be used as gaps between points are not equal
7
Q
Interval data:
A
- scores on a linear scale
- true zero
- have an equal and exact difference between values
- objective (like temp. Or time.)
8
Q
Strength of interval data:
A
- more informative than nominal and ordinal as equal difference between points
- easy to generate form closed
- mean, mode, median, variance and standard deviation can be used
9
Q
Weaknesses of interval:
A
-no baseline in interval scales that are not scientific measures
