Types Of Research Flashcards
what is quantitative data
Examples??
Numerical data
- closed questions, time taken, number of items, score on a test etc
What is qualitative data
Non numerical data which uses descriptions of what people feel or think
- case studies, observations, questionnaires, interviews
A strength of quantitative data
Easy to compare responses and identify patterns or trends
Whereas qualitative data is difficult to compare as it’s word based
A strength of qualitative data
Tells us why a behavior occurs because the response gives details of why whereas quantitative data all we know is a number
What is primary data
The research collected specific for the research being carried out directly from participants
What is secondary data
Data that doesn’t come directly from participants not specific purpose to current study
What is meta analysis
Lots of studies/data on a particular topic + pull it together to see if there’s an overall difference
A strength of primary data
We can trust the accuracy of the data
unlike secondary data where we may not know how they completed their research
A strength of secondary data
A strength of secondary data is that it saves time and money where a researcher may not be able to investigate a large amount of people
