What is a Non-Participant observation?

A

Where the researcher does not join in with the activity being observed such as in Bandura

What is a Participant observation?

A
  • Where the observer is also a participant in the activity being studied
  • Can be useful as it provides more insight into the behaviour but the observer may loose some objectivity
  • Dibs is an example

A
  • Where the participants are aware they are being studied

  • Where the participants are not fully aware they are being studied
  • the researchers may use one way mirrors to ensure they are not aware they are being studied
