What are the three types of long term memory?
Episodic, semantic and procedural
What are episodic memories?
Episodic memories describe those that have some type of meaning to us
What information do episodic memories contain?
People, places and behaviours etc.
What are semantic memories?
describe out memories of the world and out associated memories eg. general knowledge

describe our memories of learned skills such as driving

Procedural

episodic and semantic

semantic memories are recalled from the left profrontel cortex
where are episodic memories recalled from?
the right prefrontel cortex
what does petersens findings suggest?
the idea that there are different types of LTM which each have a different neurological basis as theyre recalled from different parts.
What did Belleville note regarding types of LTM?
mild cognitive imapirments most commonly affect episodic memory, which can lead to improved treatments for mild brain impairments
What did Cohen and Squire find regarding LTM?
there are declarative and non-declarative memories, which is a different classification of the one produced by Tulving.

memories which must be recalled consciously
What are non-declarative memories?
memories which are recalled unconsciously
